Published Author Interview | Fiction Novelist | Nancy Straight | BLOOD DEBT

INTERVIEW HIGHLIGHT

Hello guys, welcome on the blogs Nancy Straight, author of the novel, Blood Debt.

I read the Chapter One of this novel and I could imagine how intriguing and enthralling it would be to read the whole book! This is a novel that depicts bond, connection and other feelings. Love, family ties is a wonderful thing, which is another emotion this book explored.

Because of the great unexplainable love I have for my father, I think I felt a warm glow in my chest like Camille did when she got the sweet response from her father on the phone. Even though she was just another character in a book, I understood how she felt, connecting with her father for the first time in twenty two years.

DO: Welcome on the blogs Nancy.

NS: Thanks, Darmie. It’s a real pleasure to be here! Thanks for inviting me!

DO: It's my pleasure to have you.

"Everyone needed a family no matter how weird they might be".

DO:  That was Camille's thought while she shared with her best friend Daniel, her telephone encounter with her father. What stimulated the ideal for this book, Nancy?

NS: Blood Debt is about a girl who is truly alone in the world, Camille. She had grown up with a single parent, no siblings, and no extended family. When her mother dies she feels her world collapse in on her, and her single lifeline is the knowledge that somewhere, she has a father. In that same situation even an incarcerated father would be a blessing, but she discovers (along with the reader) that she has an entire family waiting to welcome her. A family her mother had hidden Camille from her entire life.

DO: Hmm. I would have loved to ask another question on that. But let’s leave that for the readers to sort out. OH! I really love this book! 'Blood Debt' what feelings was responsible for this catchy title?

NS: OH MY GOODNESS, it wasn’t actually a feeling that was responsible for the title. I wrote the book’s synopsis and posted it on my blog and I thought it would be fun to let fans choose the title. Over fifty entries were received, and Keren Spencer from the UK had recommended Blood Debt.

DO: HMMM.

NS: Of the entries received, this one really nailed it! Not only did she get a signed paperback when it released, in the front of the book she was given credit for the book’s title, as well.

DO: That’s an adept way to survey for the book title. I would say you are generous and honest too, remembering to give Keren a credit for her idea.

NS: It pays to be honest, Darmie, in everything that we do.

DO: Yes, you right. Please, let’s not move this interview to honest preaching. Lol! Please, pay no mind to me.

NS: I mind everything you say. *smiles*

DO: All right!!!! Ten minutes before Angela took her last breath and a rest from breast cancer, she told Camille about the father she would trade anything in the world to meet. She said, "He deserves to know you". if so why did Angela keep Camille away from William for twenty two years?

NS: That’s a great question, and seriously, to answer it well, it would take a couple hundred pages. Camille’s father, William, isn’t the person who Angela hid from for 25 years – at least he wasn’t the reason she was in hiding. I won’t say who, because it would be an enormous spoiler, but one of Angela’s relatives is a horrific person. Camille was hidden away from everyone just to ensure there was no chance this family member would ever learn of Camille’s existence.

DO: All right then, we would leave this for the readers to find out by themselves. For the next fifteen hours, through two airports and the whole time Camille was in the air, Daniel's words echoed in her mind. "Your mom has kept you two apart for a reason." I sensed there is going to be conflict. What is the principal battle of Blood Debt?

NS: Blood Debt has many conflicts throughout. It’s a modern take on a well known mythological creature – the Centaur. The principal battle isn’t bloody or gory – it’s a story about strength of will, right and wrong, and power tempered with influence. When asked to describe Blood Debt in five words or less I usually just say, “Adrenaline-filled romance.” You don’t have to be a mythological scholar to appreciate the story, nor is it a story that is predictable to the reader – so far the reviews have been fabulous.

Do: What is the end fascinating setup of this story?

NS: The end of Blood Debt is a “happily-for-now,” ultimately the end of the Touched Series will be “happily-ever-after.” The Touched Series: Blood Debt (Book 1) and Centaur Legacy (Book 2) are available from all bookstores now – both in paperback and electronic format. Centaur Rivalry (Book 3) releases in May 2013 and Centaur Redemption (Book 4) will be Fall of 2013. What I tell everyone is, “Blood Debt is on me.” I’ve made the novel free from all bookstores electronically (Amazon, B&N, i-Tunes, etc). If you aren’t hooked in the first ten pages, delete it. It doesn’t cost you a dime to see if this story is right for you.

DO: Anyone, who knows good story, will not delete Blood Debt, believe me. What moral should your potential readers take away from this book?

NS: Don’t be afraid to be who you are or be ashamed of where you came from. Make your own way in life and believe in yourself.

DO: It’s been an honor chatting on with you.
Please, do come again. *smiles*

NS: Thanks so much for having me!! Since I’m one of your new stalkers, I’m sure you’ll see me around!

DO: Heeheheheheh! Oh, my good Lord! Please Nancy, don't kill me with laughter. I wish you success dear in the publishing field. You deserve it!

DO: Thank you!
